After the user activates either authentication app or email for 2FA for his own account the user will have an additional option in its preferences page to add Application specific passwords / Application codes .The option for application codes never presents itself. Not in the user interface or in the admin portal. I have not found where I can turn on other than authentication app or email for 2FA.

Also, if the Zimbra mobile app is not a glorified browser-based app then you will have to make sure to use Zimbra webclient (Your Zimbra server webpage).
