Success. I have 2FA on both an iPhone and a Samsung with application application passcodes working for mail. The 2FA on the mail app has carried over to Contacts and to Calendar apps which is what we are looking for.
Three things to note and it might have been just me.
When the Zimbra admin portal provides an application passcode, that is what you enter instead of the Zimbra password when setting up the application. The admin interface says passcode, the application says password. They are the same. You will not use the Zimbra account password to setup 2FA on the mobile device.
When setting 2FA through something like the authenticator app, the passcode is not case sensitive much like entering a MAC address in routers and switches. At least not on my phone. However, the application passcode is certainly case sensitive.
Some phones, depending on OS version I think as I did not deep dive to replicate the issue, can be difficult to setup application passcodes on an existing account. If I blow away the email account on the phone and then configure 2FA everything goes quickly and easily.
- Application passcode = zimbra password.
- Application passcodes are case sensitive.
- Blow away the account on the mobile device and reinstall using 2FA, it's just easier.
Thank you everyone.
