Administrators • Closed accounts can still send emails via SMTP

In our Zimbra 8.8.15P45 open source installation, accounts in a "closed" state can still connect via SMTP and send mail.
This behavior does not seem to be correct. Could it be some specific configuration of our environment that is generating this behavior?
